Well, here we go again! Campaign season is upon us. I have “pulled papers,” as they say, with the Registrar of Voters to run for a third term as 4 four-year Director of Moulton Niguel Water District.

While I stay engaged with my constituents year-round (through public events, Chamber of Commerce meetings, District-sponsored appearances, etc.), I hope to be posting some blogs, when I become an official incombent candidate, to address what I have been hearing from District customers the last 4 years. You're interested in rates; PFAS (poly flouro alkyl substances) microplastic; to install or not to install an in-house water filtration system; data center water usage, and more.

I also hope you'll come up and introduce yourselves if you ever see me out in the community.

It has been an interesting and productive past 4 years as Director, building on the previous 4 years of my first term. With another term I can build on the experience and leadership I've accumulated in office, which will allow me to continue to make real progress in serving the water and wastewater profession and—more importantly—serving my local community. I am privileged and humbled to be able to give back after my 50 years of experience in water, wastewater, and environmental leadership. I like to think the best is yet to come!

Let's look back at the past 4 years. I have been instrumental—if not directly responsible in some cases—for the accomplishments the District has achieved regarding—

• Improved emergency leak response procedures.

• More frequent infrastructure investigations and priorities.

• Approved budgets preparing District for future infrastructure repairs and upgrades.

• Helipad in South Orange County for fire protection and immediate response.

• Improved inter-agency relations for better coordination of resources in South County.

• Rate structure ensuring present and future water quality and reliability.

I've demonstrated my personal commitment to fiscal responsibility, sustainability, and community involvement by—

• Voting against and declining an increase in Director compensation.

• Donating a portion of my Director compensation to local non-profit organizations focused on conservation, history, and education (Moulton Museum, Niguel Botanical Preserve, OC Coastkeeper, Pacific Marine Mammal Center, and more).

• Participating in the District's NatureScape Garden Design Program at my own expense, transforming my front yard into a drought-tolerant, native-plant zone to conserve water and provide a friendly environment for local birds and bees.

Whew, just reviewing the last four years now has me excited about the next four!
